What we collect
When you join the waitlist: your email address, and whether you’re a parent, a teacher or school staff, if you choose to tell us. That part is optional.
When you write to us through the contact form: your name if you give it, your email address, whether you’re a parent, a teacher or someone else if you choose to say, and your message.
That’s all. We never ask about your child, and neither form has a place for a child’s information. This site is for adults.
What we use it for
To tell you about HelioStep’s launch: when it opens, and how to get it. Knowing whether you’re a parent or a teacher lets us send the part that’s useful to you. We don’t use your email for ads, and we don’t sell, rent or share the list with anyone.
What you send through the contact form is used only to reply to you.
Confirming your email
When you join, we send one email with a link. You’re only on the list after you open the link in it, so no one can sign you up without you. The link works for 3 days. If you don’t confirm, you’re never added and we won’t write again, though our email service keeps a short record of every email it sends, including that one.
So that no one can use the form to flood someone’s inbox, we send at most one confirmation email per address an hour. For that hour we keep a scrambled fingerprint of the address, which can’t be turned back into it, and then it’s deleted.
If the quick check that keeps bots out can’t run in your browser, you can still join, but we allow at most three of those signups an hour from one network. To count them we keep a scrambled fingerprint of your IP address, never the address itself, for up to an hour, and then it’s deleted.
Writing to us
A message you send through the contact form comes to our inbox at hello@heliostep.com as an email, set up so our reply goes to the address you gave. We use it only to reply to you. The site itself stores nothing from the form, though our email service keeps a short record of every email it sends, including your message.
So that no one can use the form to flood our inbox, we accept at most five messages an hour from one network. To count them we keep a scrambled fingerprint of your IP address, never the address itself, for up to an hour, and then it’s deleted.
Who handles it
Two service providers help us run the waitlist and the contact form:
- Our email service keeps the list and sends our emails, including the messages you send us through the contact form.
- Our hosting and security provider serves this site and runs the quick check that keeps bots off the forms. The check loads only when you use a form. Like any web host, it sees your IP address when you visit and keeps it briefly in its logs; we don’t use it for anything.
To know how many people visit and which pages they read, we count visits with cookie-free analytics from our hosting provider. It sets no cookies, doesn’t identify anyone and doesn’t follow you across other sites. This site has no ads and no tracking cookies.
To know which companies these are, email hello@heliostep.com.
Kept apart from the app
Your waitlist email is never added to the HelioStep app or its database. If you sign up for HelioStep after it opens, that’s a separate account, and the app has its own privacy policy, which we’ll publish before the first families join.
How long we keep it
Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Once HelioStep has launched, the waitlist has done its job: we’ll delete the whole list within 12 months of launch day.
Messages you send us stay in our inbox until you ask us to delete them.
Unsubscribe or delete
Every launch email has an unsubscribe link. To have your address removed completely, email hello@heliostep.com and we’ll delete it from our email service. To have a message you sent us deleted, write to the same address and we’ll delete it from our inbox.
